In a MMO in general, characters are constantly told how awesome, special and chosen they are. SWTOR, WoW, EQ and others are no exception. This works fairly well in single player RPGs, but, there is a bit of a difference when it comes to MMOs. In an MMO you are part of a persistant world, and many of the players have been on the same quests you have. This means they have also heard the claims of their greatness. Somehow, when it is put in this perspective, it kinda takes away from the feeling you are really saving the world. Which, I guess you are- for that instance anyway.

Yeah, but take into account this is the same shit for every game. You all end up sharing the story, and the experience is dampened when you hear how many people have done it. I had a great time with SW:TOR, just like I did with C&C3, but when you realize everyone’s special, not just MMOs are dampened.
I do not disagree with you. However, the impact is more immediate when playing an MMO. When playing an offline RPG, the feeling- for me at least- is a bit different. The sharing of one’s deeds had to wait until the next time you spoke to your friends or other players. Perhaps it was the disconnect that made the accomplishments feel more like, well, accomplishments.
