Some friends and I were having a conversation a while back. You know, the classic who would win in a fight type conversation? Star Wars vs Star Trek, Elminster vs Gandalf, Batman vs Iron Man, Lobo vs Wolverine, etc. So I presented the option of a normal Stormtrooper vs a Red Shirt from Star Trek. The idea behind it was, in the movies the Stormtroopers never hit their main target (except that one that grazed Leia’s arm during the prison break Endor scene. That dude should have gotten a medal and a promotion for that). The second part is, the Red Shirts are put into place for no reason- except to die. Now, this conversation went back and forth until it became somewhat of an unstoppable force vs immovable object situation. However, by the time everything was said and done, we decided on mutually assured destruction.

I’d love to see all the intelligent but fatally flawed computers on the original Star Trek get into a debate-to-the-death… M5 vs. Nomad vs. Norman (and the Stellas), with a grinning Kirk as moderator…
Kirk: “Good evening, and welcome to this week’s Artificial Intelligence Squared USS. Tonight’s very special debate doubleheader is being broadcast live from the bridge of the Doomsday Machine. Our panel tonight will tackle two thorny propositions: 1) Murder is contrary to the laws of man and God 2) I Love you, but I Hate you.”
Grr… Wish I could edit that. Broadcasting from the bridge of the “Voyager 6″ would probably have been funnier…
